FIRE STATION NO. 129 WITH TRAINING AND FLEET MAINTENANCE FACILITY
lancaster, california
- completed. 1995 ~ 1996 -

The North County Training and Fleet Maintenance Facility serves the entire north end of Los Angeles County. The Training Center is used for in-service training in addition to the training of cadets. Integral with the operation of the Training Center is the Drill Tower. This includes such innovations as cold smoke and fire simulation lights throughout the building, changeable maze rooms for search and rescue training, and a "Swedish burn room" for controlled flash-over fire training. The building also is fitted with a recirculating water system including a 50,000 gallon cistern. This system filters and reuses the water used in training exercises. The Fleet Maintenance building includes eight bays with hydraulic lifts for maintaining the County's largest fire apparatus.
Traveling overhead cranes service all areas of the maintenance bays. Gear oil, motor oil and antifreeze are piped to each bay and stored for recycling. Also included in the project is a heliport complete with fueling facilities and a hangar incorporated into the Fleet Maintenance building.
