firm profile projects awards contact home UNIS ART STUDIO - claremont, california - completed. october, 2000 - ▲    The Unis Art Studio expansion is an infill exercise in a space between an existing studio and a house. This new space links the two objects together. The program dictated that the artist have the maximum amount of natural daylight possible in the new space. Also important was the privacy of the neighboring properties and providing cross-ventilation through the space.    These goals were achieved by raising the volume of the addition above the surrounding roof lines, allowing daylight to be captured from all sides. Exposed wood truss members fly through the new volume, providing visual balance and a platform for the gallery lighting as well as structural bracing. The effect is dramatic, and the spatial qualities created make for a wonderful workspace and display space. ▼   ◄◄ BACK
