firm profile projects awards contact home ZAIDI RESIDENCE - upland, california - expected completion. november, 2009 - ▲    Situated on an interior flag lot in a retired orchard, this modern residence has stunning views of the mountains and a very private feeling. The site layout was dictated by an access easement, and a few existing trees the owner wished to preserve.    The owner came to us with a desire to use shipping containers as the main framework of the home. Therefore, four high cube containers stacked in a grid form the guest bedrooms and auxiliary spaces at the front of the house, while a standard, short container forms the ceiling of the central kitchen and houses the laundry and master closet.    The containers drive the aesthetic of the space, the corrugated and utilitarian forms providing a backdrop for a floating stair and catwalk and large public space volumes which open toward the views to the north. ▼   ◄◄ BACK
