A re-creation of original features of a 1951 modern ranch-style house that was published in the Los Angeles Times when first built. Some of the most striking features had been removed in a 1978 addition, including full-height wood-framed doors and windows to the back garden and an unusual dining-room table that slid through a wall between kitchen and living room. Our work reopened the back of the house to the garden with new, full-height, wood-framed doors and windows, and recreated the dual-purpose sliding table with innovative attitude and materials: the table easily rolls between kitchen and dining room on skateboard wheels, forming a fun, functional and space-saving focal point. The custom kitchen was newly designed in creative collaboration between clients and architect, including the sculptural wood screen forming a permeable border between kitchen and living room.
