WALTERS RESIDENCE - forest falls, california

This modern interpretation of a classic cabin is located at 5,600 feet in the spectacular mountain landscape of Forest Falls, California. The home is passively heated and cooled and makes use of natural materials for the interior finishes and heavy timber for the interior structure. The exterior walls are constructed of Rastra, a recycled polystyrene and concrete structural block form which has a four-hour fire rating and an R50 thermal rating. The exterior walls, along with other fire resistant measures, are important for the survivability of the house in this fire prone landscape.
The house also produces its own electricity through a photovoltaic array, and has multi-zoned radiant floor heating for efficient space conditioning. The house has an open floor plan with a loft overlooking the living room, a third story reading loft and an open stair connecting the three. The main floor also includes an open kitchen, a breakfast nook, a library, and dining area all with views of the large central fireplace and the mountain peaks across the valley.
